WEEK OF COMMUNITY ACTION:
During two evenings during the week of events, we took to the streets on mass with a trailer fully loaded with al sorts of tools & 4 lawn-mowers, offering to do people's gardens for no charge.
On our first evening we had 17 helpers, and 11 on our second. We targeted houses whose gardens were most in need of some TLC near to the Whitiora school where we had done the work the previous weekend.
People were so blown away that we were willing to do their gardens for free and it stimulated some good conversations. It proved to be a lot fun for us, with great camaraderie amongst the team of workers - so much so that we're hoping this will be the start of many more projects like this in the future - potentially with teams going out into the local commuity to help with gardening on a monthly basis.
One guy was so touched by what we were doing that he gave us his brand-new, still-boxed electric trimmer for the edges. Another family had had their mower stolen a month back and so hadn't been able to do any work on their garden. And there were plenty of other cool stories as well.
